The artists at this year’s Canal Convergence have installed massive artwork all over the world. Each will be leading an artist talk, where they will share their work, creative process and vision. Come with questions and pick the brains of these international and local artists. Each talk is FREE and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

Feel free to come a little early to find a seat and grab a drink and food at the Casablanca Rooftop Lounge located above The Herb Box along the canal waterfront.

Collectif Coin – Globoscope

Collectif Coin is an experiential light art installation and design lab based in Grenoble, France. Their work has occupied monumental public spaces as well as more intimate locations, each equally as immersive of an experience. Committed to the production of trans-disciplinary work with particular focus on the digital arts, Collectif Coin works around the notions of body, sound and light. Their work has been shown all over France, Italy, Berlin, Romania and Canada.

Studio ALEX (Architectural Light Experience) — Flawless

Studio ALEX (Architectural Light Experience) was founded in 2014 in Amsterdam and Milan by industrial designer Gonzalo Bascunan, from Chile, and space designer Perrine Vichet, from France. Both coming from eclectic and unique backgrounds, they explore light in all its forms to shape experiences in the public space. Studio ALEX’s projects are characterized by their emotional and minimal aesthetic impact with a continuous search for strong storytelling.

Jotta Studio – Desert Sun

Founded by Ben James in 2009 in partnership with the London based art school, Central Saint Martins, Jotta Studio is an installation and experience-based design group. The studio creates large scale installation works utilizing elements including light, film and kinetics to respond to space. Design & Production by Netta Peltola, Sebastian Kite, Ben Custance, Clare Brooks & Ben James.

RADAR Art — Barter Boat

RADAR Art is a collective comprising Robin Schwartzman, Anna Abhau Elliott and Desiree Moore. The three met during artist residencies at HUB BUB in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and have been collaborating ever since. RADAR Art is interested in making connections through objects, personal narratives, conversations and social exchanges. Projects include Cold War/m Up at the Art Shanty Projects in Medicine Lake, Minnesota, as well as five iterations of the Barter Boat in Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Atlanta and, soon to be, Scottsdale.

Nicole L Olson — Dance Performer

Olson started her training in ballet and classical jazz at Milwaukee Ballet School. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from University of Wisconsin, she performed for Kirby Reed (Chicago), Bauer Contemporary Ballet (Milwaukee) and Emergence Dance Theatre (Chicago). Currently, she is the associate director/principal dancer of Scorpius Dance Theatre. Olson received the 2016 Phoenix Mayor’s Arts Award for Dance the Phoenix New Times named her “Best Dancer” in its 2016 list of 100 Creatives.

Patrick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics — Reflection Rising

Patrick Shearn founded Poetic Kinetics, a Los Angeles-based immersive art studio whose outstanding kinetic sculptures are a spectacle that take over the space they occupy. The artists of Poetic Kinetics come from the film, concert/live event and circus industries, allowing for their work to be larger than life. Their installations have been displayed in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and at the Electric Daisy Carnival, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Beijing Olympic Games.
