Relfection Rising by Patrick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics

On display: Nov. 17, 2017 – March 5, 2018

Reflection Rising was a site-specific installation designed for the Scottsdale Waterfront and Canal Convergence. It ran above the canal from the Marshall Way Bridge to the Soleri Bridge near Scottsdale Road. Hundreds of thousands of brightly-colored streamers  suspended by a lightweight, virtually invisible net, allowed the kinetic sculpture to move fluidly in the wind.

Phase I had been in place since November and Phase II, an addition to the piece, was installed in time for the Canal Convergence event. It is a literal extension of the piece with the streamers fading from bright colors into a silvery Mylar encompassing Soleri Plaza.

Patrick Shearn founded Poetic Kinetics, a Los Angeles-based immersive art studio whose outstanding kinetic sculptures are a spectacle that take over the space they occupy. The artists of Poetic Kinetics come from the film, concert/live event and circus industries, allowing for their work to be larger than life. Their installations have been displayed in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and at the Electric Daisy Carnival, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Beijing Olympic Games.
