The Artists

ATOMIC3 is a creative design studio founded by Félix Dagenais and Louis-Xavier Gagnon-Lebrun, who draw inspiration from stories, poetry, and light. Whether interactive or contemplative, ATOMIC3’s creations transform the public space to connect with people in their daily lives, inviting viewers to see the world and their environment with new eyes. The design team has shown its work throughout the world, from Paris and Stockholm to Montreal and New York City. Félix Dagenais worked for more than a decade as an assistant director and stage manager in the theatre world. Louis-Xavier Gagnon-Lebrun is a light artist and lighting designer in the fields of architecture and the performing arts.

Ottomata believes that most great things in life happen when people take action. They explore this idea in their work by creating collaborative, immersive spaces and interactive installations that take place in the public space where the human is at the center. In their projects, the public is invited to break the boundaries between spectator and actor and engage into deep and meaningful interactions in order to get back in the present moment.

The Artwork

Light Orchestra is an interactive light and sound installation that lets Canal Convergence visitors become conductors, moving their arms to direct a luminous symphony. From a podium, they will direct an orchestra of motorized projectors, creating beams of light that sweep across the sky, responding to the maestro’s movements and producing unique musical sequences. This luminous and musical ballet adapts and evolves, according to the passion and energy of the budding conductor. With increased movement, the music becomes more energetic and beams of light perform a lively dance above the canal.
