Sawmill Grinders feature a unique blend of country and classic rock. The five-member band is led by Audrey Hicks with special guest vocalist from the Groove Merchants—Mark Long! Hicks, oftentimes, takes to the dance floor with the guests and includes them in her vocals.
Based in Mesa, the Sawmill Grinders have been performing for three years. With over 100 years combined experience, the Sawmill Grinders have performed for the City of Phoenix, Caravan Health, the Illinois Automobile Dealers Association, Harley-Davidson, The Monastery, Kartchner Caverns, Westgate Entertainment District, Desert Ridge Marketplace, Sun Lakes Country Club, Budget Storage, The International Red Hat Society, Golden Coral Restaurants, Vi at Grayhawk, and other notable organizations. The Grinders is led by vocalist Audrey Hicks alongside guest vocalist Mark Long, who has performed with The Groove Merchants for over 10 years. Lead guitarist Tony Streiter has performed with a host of renowned dance bands and in studio and live throughout Phoenix and Chicago. Bassist Doug Robertson II is an accomplished musician and sound engineer, having worked in the studio with a host of renowned artists, including Lil’ Kim, Fred Durst, Rob Thomas, Roberta Flack, and Tom Jones. Along with his work on a Blondie special for MTV and the dance version of “In the Air Tonight,” Robertson was awarded the prestigious RIAA Multi-Platinum plaque for his engineering on Pink’s first album, Can’t Take Me Home. Band leader/drummer Doug Robertson began with his first pair of drumsticks 60 years ago! His skills are directly related to the tutelage from Drum & Bugle Corp Hall of Famer Don Friesing. In the 1980s, Robertson formed the Christian rock band Alien and toured regionally for nine years.
