Virtual artist talks, tours, and interactive animations are located throughout Canal Convergence using augmented reality.
Most of the temporary Canal Convergence installations have augmented reality features. Additionally, there are two artworks that exist only in augmented reality. A selection of artworks from the Scottsdale Public Art Permanent Collection in Old Town Scottsdale are adding augmented reality components for Canal Convergence. Links to all of the artworks with augmented reality components can be found here.
Other augmented reality experiences can be triggered by your device’s location to them at the Scottsdale Waterfront, including the Salt River Project’s Canal History Tour and Something in the Canal by Phoenix College.
How to Access AR at Canal Convergence
Before visiting the event, access your mobile device’s app store, download the Hoverlay app, and follow instructions to install the Hoverlay camera browser app on your mobile device. Search for the CanalConvergence channel to unlock these experiences at home, or look for QR codes on signs or ground stickers at the Scottsdale Waterfront and around Old Town Scottsdale. Please note: the app requires an augmented reality-capable device running iOS 13 or later or Android 7.0 or later.
Share your experience! The Hoverlay app allows you to take photos and video of your augmented reality experience directly within the app. Use #CanalConvergence when sharing your experiences on social media and tagging our social media accounts.
