Floom
On display November 5–14, 2021
Phoenix, Arizona
Fiery water lilies light up the night with choreographed performances every evening of Canal Convergence. Floom is series of polished metal water lily sculptures, blooming out of the Arizona Canal between Marshall Way Bridge and Goldwater Boulevard. They glimmer in the sun during the day and take on an LED glow at night, generating colorful reflections. Every evening, these seemingly tranquil lilies ignite, shooting flames 30 feet into the air. Hidden within each of the 12 smaller flowers is a powerful flame effect, and at the center is a single, extra-large lily that hides a unique fire experience within its petals: the “Big Flame,” which differs from the smaller flowers in a way that must be experienced. The light and flame effects harmonize beautifully when set to music for the nightly performances.
