Welcome to Figment Land is a series of augmented reality (AR)-activated murals based on the Sam & Sara children’s book. Visitors can interact with the book’s characters, called “Figments,” which are activated through the murals’ imagery and AR, opening a world of imagination and inspiring creativity. Step into the “Figment” realm, take time to daydream, and remember to take a picture with these intriguing characters. The murals are based on the Sam & Sara children’s book that was created entirely with murals. The story was written and illustrated on walls across Arizona, from Ajo to Winslow. People can experience the story by visiting these 25 diverse communities throughout the state or by reading the book. You can purchase a copy of the book at The Store @ Canal Convergence during the event.

Locations: Murals from Welcome to Figment Land can be found in three different locations throughout Old Town Scottsdale. Look for the following:

1. The series’ eponymous mural, Welcome to Figment Land, will be on view along the Arizona Canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront throughout Canal Convergence, Nov. 3–12.
2. Daydreaming at the Mall… can be found from Nov. 3–12 near the lululemon store at Scottsdale Fashion Square, where it highlights aspects of the mall that inspire imagination—namely entertainment, shopping, and the beautiful people who visit.
3. The final mural, Imagymnation, will be on view one day only, Sunday, Nov. 12, at Scottsdale Civic Center’s 360 Stage for the lululemon 10K Tour. This mural recognizes the connection between exercise and creativity.

Bienvenidos a la tierra de la fantasía

Bienvenidos a la tierra de la fantasía es una serie de murales de realidad aumentada (RA) basado en el libro infantil Sam & Sara. Los visitantes pueden interactuar con los personajes del libro llamados “Fantasías”, que se activan a través de las imágenes del mural y la RA, lo cual permite abrir un mundo de imaginación e inspirar la creatividad. Entre en el ámbito de la “Fantasía”, tómese el tiempo para soñar despierto y recuerde tomarse una foto con estos personajes intrigantes. Los murales están basados en el libro infantil Sam & Sara que fue creado enteramente con murales. La historia fue escrita e ilustrada en muros de todo el estado de Arizona, desde Ajo hasta Winslow. Las personas pueden conocer la historia visitando estas 25 comunidades diversas de todo el estado o leyendo el libro. Puede adquirir una copia del libro en La tienda de Canal Convergence durante el evento. 

Ubicación: puede encontrar los murales de Bienvenidos a la tierra de la fantasía en tres ubicaciones diferentes de Old Town Scottsdale. Busque lo siguiente: 

1. El mural homónimo de la serie, Bienvenidos a la tierra de la fantasía, se exhibirá a lo largo del Canal de Arizona en el frente marítimo de Scottsdale durante el Canal Convergence, del 3 al 12 de noviembre.
2. La obra Soñando despierto en el centro comercial… se exhibirá del 3 al 12 de noviembre cerca de la tienda de lululemon en la Scottsdale Fashion Square. La obra resalta los aspectos del centro comercial que inspiran la imaginación, como el entretenimiento, las compras y las hermosas personas que lo visitan.
3. El mural final, Imagymnation, estará en exhibición solamente un día, el domingo 12 de noviembre, en el escenario 360 del Centro Cívico de Scottsdale Civic Center para la Carrera 10K de lululemon. Este mural reconoce la conexión entre el ejercicio y la creatividad. 

Biography

Isaac Caruso is a professional muralist and writer, born and raised in Arizona. His work has taken him worldwide, from artist residencies aboard tall ships sailing through the Arctic to community outreach projects in the barrios of Montevideo, Uruguay. Caruso is completing his most ambitious project yet, the first picture book told entirely with murals. It is called Sam & Sara and celebrates people with attention deficit disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and autism. As a gifted neurodiverse learner, he had difficulty fitting into the school system. He discovered art, and it became his escape. This journey inspired Caruso to create a book for kids with similar paths. Painting Sam & Sara in Figment Land has been a four-year adventure across his home state of Arizona, and he is proud to release a book that celebrates those who dare to be different! Caruso lives with his girlfriend and many pets in Phoenix, Arizona. He hopes to have a mural on every continent someday! Four down, three to go.

Isaac Caruso es un muralista y escritor profesional, nacido y criado en Arizona. Su trabajo lo ha llevado a viajar por el mundo, desde residencias de artistas a bordo de grandes barcos que navegan por el Ártico hasta proyectos comunitarios en los barrios de Montevideo, Uruguay. Caruso está finalizando su proyecto más ambicioso, el primer libro ilustrado contado enteramente con murales. Se llama Sam & Sara y celebra a las personas con trastorno de déficit de atención, trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad y autismo. Como estudiante con talento neurodivergente, el artista tuvo dificultades para adaptarse al sistema escolar. Descubrió el arte y se convirtió en su escape. Esto inspiró a Caruso a crear un libro para niños que experimentan situaciones similares. Pintar a Sam & Sara en la tierra de la fantasía ha sido una aventura de cuatro años por su estado natal, Arizona, y el artista está orgulloso de publicar un libro que celebra a aquellos que se animan a ser diferentes. Caruso vive con su novia y muchas mascotas en Phoenix, Arizona. Su sueño es tener un mural en cada uno de los continentes. Ya tiene murales en cuatro continentes, faltan tres.
